Course Details

To master the art of becoming a barista, you must build a well-rounded knowledge of coffee. From where your beans come from and how they're roasted, to maintaining your equipment and dialling it in to get your perfect espresso.

Barista Masters know all there is to know about espresso and milk-based drinks, and hot and iced coffees. They are experts in keeping their customers happy. They can easily take a customer through their menu and make recommendations for new customers based on their preferences or moods.

RSA Brisbane Course

Course Details

To work in any establishment in Brisbane that sells alcohol, you will need a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate. Places such as cafes, clubs, bars, restaurants, venues, and even liquor stores require such a certification from their employees. Upon completing our four-hour Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) approved RSA course in Brisbane, you can obtain such accreditation.

Latte Art

Course Details

Our De-mystifying Latte Art course takes a deeper dive into this art form than any of the other courses we offer. Learners will master the control of the pour of the milk and understand how to vary the speed and angle to achieve the best results.

Classes are limited to six students, allowing each learner to have sufficient individual time with the trainer, boosting learning ability. Because latte art is mastered through lots of practice with properly steamed milk.

Entrance Requirements / Pre-requisites

Although this is a non-accredited course, enrolment is still limited to learners who:

  • Have previously completed a nationally accredited coffee course in Australia

    or

  • Have completed the Barista Master Class with Coffee School

    or

  • Are currently working in the industry making coffees or have previous industry experience.

The reason for these pre-requisites is to ensure that participants spend their time learning and practicing how to pour properly steamed milk and create patterns. This is not possible if learners don't already have an established level of competency and being able to steam milk correctly.

Free pouring is not an easy skill to develop, but with focused training and practice, the path to mastering latte art can be opened.

RSA Online

Course Details

If you want to work in any bar, club, cafe, restaurant or venue (including liquor stores and bottle shops) that sells alcohol in Victoria, you will need a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Coffee School now offer RSA courses online for anyone who is unable to travel into our Melbourne CBD location. The course is approved by Liquor Control Victoria (LCV) and delivered through a virtual classroom.

To undertake this training, you will require the following

  • A computing device with sound, a microphone, and a webcam. This can include a desktop, laptop, smart phone, or tablet.
  • Photo Identification.

Coffee Appreciation

Course Details

When it comes to coffee appreciation, there is little that beats a genuine bean to cup process. Especially when it starts with roasting your own beans.

With our Coffee Appreciation course in Melbourne, you will gain the skills necessary to roast your own coffee. But you will also be given a chance to create your own signature blend.

What You Will Learn

  • Theory behind roasting coffee beans, along with an understanding of the chemical changes the beans undergo during the roasting process.
  • How to operate and maintain the roasting equipment.
  • Understanding how the origin of different coffee beans influence flavour.
  • Steps involved in selecting green coffee beans.
  • How to recognise mistakes made during roasting.
  • Techniques used for blending coffee.

Each participant will have the chance to select green coffee beans from our range of coffees and then roast them perfectly. This is followed by another hands-on session in which you will use five different techniques to make the same coffee: traditional espresso, drip coffee, pour-over, French press, and Turkish style.

Assessment

This is a non-accredited course, there is no assessment.

Three hours. This is an in-person course at our Melbourne training facilities.

We limit the number of learners in our Coffee Appreciation course. This allows each participant to enjoy a comprehensive, hands-on experience.

Certification
