What is an RSA NSW Interim Certificate?
- The Interim Certificate is issued at the end of your class
- It allows you to commence working immediately
- It is valid for 90 days only for working
- Within 90 days you must take it to a Service NSW retail shop to have your photo taken for your Competency card which will be posted to your address
What is an RSA NSW Competency Card?
This is the license card issued by the NSW Justice Office of Liquor & Gaming which allows you to work where alcohol is served in NSW. It is illegal to work without it in licensed venues.
How do I get the Competency Card?
After you have finised your course you must take your Interim Certificate with 100 Points of ID to a Service NSW.The value of your ID must total 100 points – as explained on the back of your interim certificate
How long is the Competency Card valid?
It is valid for 5 years.
The office of Liquore and Gaming NSW will email you a link to complete the RSA & RCG refresher 3 months prior to your cards 5 year expiry
You have 28 days to complete referesher online after your card expires
Beyond 28 days students must complete the entire course again

The Statement of Attainment SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol is a Nationally Recognised certificate meaning that you have completed your RSA course and can work in NSW serving Alcohol.
Can I work in other states of Australia with my NSW RSA Statement of Attainment?
Yes the Statement of Attainment SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol Nationally Recognised also allows you to work in

Can I use my RSA NSW Interim Certificate after 90 days?
You cannot use your Interim Certificate for working purposes after 90 days but you can still take it to the Service NSW to create your competency card

If you must change your Name, Title or Date of Birth on your Interim Certificate you must complete the cc0300 Ammendement Form click here and submit to Office of Liquor Gaming & Racing Level 6, 323 Castlereagh St Haymarket NSW 2000 or Email: competencycard@olgr.nsw.gov.au
How can I change my postal address on my NSW interim certificate?
If your address has changed since completing your course simlply notify the Service NSW at the time of taking your photo
Is the RSA course practical?
No it is theoretical pen and paper course in a classroom. You do not learn how to mix drinks in the RSA course. If you want to learn Bar & Cocktails skills please click here

Do I need the RCG if I have my RSA?
Yes. To find a job it helps to have your RCG (Responsible Conduct of Gaming) as well as your RSA. Most pubs, clubs and hotels have poker machines and will require you to have both the RSA & RCG
Do I need to do a Bar & cocktail course if I have my RSA?
Yes. If you apply for a job with only your RSA and no bar experience/skills, the employer will most likely tell you they require staff who already have bar skills and they do not have the time to teach you how to make all the drinks and cocktails. They want someone with practical bar skills who can begin working immediately. Our Bar Skills course is non-accredited course and you will receive a certificate of attendance after course completion.
Do I need to do a Coffee Course if I have my RSA?
Yes. By having your Coffee skills as well as your RSA you will have many more job opportunities. Most cafes and restaurants are alcohol licensed and therefore require the barista to hold the RSA. Similarly most pubs, clubs, hotels bars, have espresso machines. They therefore require the bar staff to have the coffee skills as well as the RSA.
